If you can… fall in love with the work, with the people you work with, with your dreams and their dreams. Whatever it was that got you to this school, don’t let it go. Whatever kept you here, don’t let that go. Believe in your friends. Believe that what you and your friends have to say – and that they way you’re saying it – is something new in the world. And don’t stop. Just hold on and keep loving what you love, and you’ll see. In the end, they’ll let you stay.

A photographer: Having the eye to see through the viewfinder of a camera what most others can’t see with a full range of vision. You can do it. Nothing will stop you. If you keep shooting, eventually, you’ll make it to where you want to be. Never give up on what you love. Don’t let a lack of gear, money, or faith get in the way of you doing what you love.

Friday nights with friends, football, and the making of broadcast television.

It’s giving up normal hours of free time to stay in the newsroom. It’s accepting that you won’t have a normal sleeping pattern. It’s about knowing that you may indeed be up for 24 hours – and that’s not a rare experience. There’s a lot to being a journalist. News never stops. Neither do we. It takes a special kind of person to say that they want to be a journalist. I’m crazy enough to want that, and blessed enough to be surrounded by people who are just as crazy as I am every single day.
